What Makes a Good Leader?

Leadership is the behavior we exert when we take responsibility for our actions and their consequences. It’s the voice within us that calls out and says, “Take charge!” It’s the challenge we face when we assume responsibility for guiding others. Leadership is often the difference between success and failure. It’s what separates the doers from the observers. And it’s what gives direction to individuals and organizations. Without leadership, we are lost.

Despite the old adage, the truth is that leaders are made, not born. Leadership is developed by learning and refining a set of skills – skills that anyone, including you and me, can learn and develop.

Good leaders have learned how to:

Listen and Learn from others

Energize the organization

Act for the benefit of everyone

Develop themselves and others

Empower others to lead

Recognize achievement

Focus on these “Big Six” and you will become a more effective and respected leader.

TO YOUR SUCCESS!

— The Best Gift Ever —

A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man’s name embossed in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, “With all your money you give me a Bible?” And stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible. Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things. When he arrived at his father’s house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father’s important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse, Matt 7:11, “And if ye, being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly father which is in heaven, give to those who ask Him?” As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer’s name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words… PAID IN FULL.How many times do we miss God’s blessing because they are not packaged as we expected? I trust you enjoyed this. Pass it on to others. Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for…PLS. SEND THIS TO AT LEAST FIVE PEOPLE SO AS TO LET THIS GREAT LESSON FLOW AROUND.End Copy

Lesson I learned: (Write here what your learned) Choose to accept all that comes your way and in it you will find great value.

Trish Alexia's Christening

Today is Trish Alexia’s christening. She’s the daughter of Jay and Tetchie, my niece. The Christening took place at the Sto. Domingo church, reception followed at “Kamay Kainan” in West Ave. Q.C.

Alexi as fondly called by our relatives, is a premature baby. She was born two months ahead than expected and just weighting 4 pounds. After two months, she already gained some pounds.

We are thanking the LORD, our prayers for this little angel really moved mountains.

Welcome to Christian World!

Conviction

Commitment depends upon conviction. And conviction is something you can create from what you already have.

Within you there is a powerful and undeniable sense of purpose. Conviction comes from making a solid and persistent connection to that unique purpose.

When your intentions are supported by a strong enough reason why, you will find a way to bring them to life. Getting anything done is a matter of continuing to remember why you have chosen to do it.

It's no secret that focused and persistent effort brings achievement. With a strong sense of conviction, you can keep that effort going for as long as the achievement requires.

Harness the power that flows from your most authentic desires. Build your convictions based on who you truly are.

When your actions resonate with those convictions, they produce profound and valuable results. Each moment you live with purpose is a moment that adds real richness to your world.

PGMA signed tax exemption for minimum wage earners

It was last week when PGMA signed the bill that would exempt minimum wage earners from paying income tax and increasing personal exemptions for other employees. Sen. Manuel Roxas, principal author of the measure, said the new law would "provide relief to our workers by increasing their take home pay." . . . This is a good move from the government since most of us, are experiencing high prices and an average income family could never sustain the present price increase.

The law is said to take effect 15 days after its publication in a national newspaper.

Last Saturday, June 21, 2008 RA 9504 (New tax exemption law) was published in Manila Bulletin, p. 4 and Malaya, p. A3

Let us wait for the BIR ruling on how this be implemented.

Just now, Malacañang announced that there will be no classes to all levels in metro manila.

Early morning, Metro Manila experience rains and strong winds due to typhoon Frank. Most of the cities in Metro Manila were brownout and power was restored noontime. Most part of the metro is not passable to light vehicles due to flood streets. According to PAG-ASA typhoon Frank will still bring heavy rains for the next two days. Earlier, Sec. Jesi Lapuz of DEPED announced that there would be NO classes both elementary and high school, while college students needs to wait for the CHED advice.

Other schools such as UST and St. Scho declared No classes for college levels.

Clean n' Save

Cleaning the house is really a tough job. So I guess me and my hubby have to make the best of a bad situation, when we haven’t gotten to the point of having perfect housemaid who pick up things after herself, I guess the only thing to do is for us to scrutinize and clean up behind. There are times we can’t’ watch over her because we both need to attend to an early meeting, that makes more complicated . . . we really can’t figure out how we can manage our time. Until, AccuCharge Technology comes up with a revolutionary dirt buster . . . they have an array of DIRT DEVIL products from hand vacs, stick and broom vacs, upright style, carpet cleaners and other designer series that are available in delectable designs and shades. And not only that, Dirt Devil products could not only save up our time in cleaning, but since it has a high-efficiency charging system that could save up energy up 70%,. This advanced system makes this innovative product the first cordless vacuums approved by the Energy Star . That makes a lot of savings. In addition, they even come up with on sales and after sales site wherein you could track order status, download manuals, service locators, product registration and shipping information. 5238dd240x180public

So next time, look for the DIRT DEVIL and start saving.

Run toward the challenges

Of course it's difficult. That's what makes it so valuable.

The time, effort and commitment you put into reaching the goal have their own rewards, over and above the achievement itself. They make you stronger, more disciplined, and more effective.

When great effort is called for, great opportunities abound. When challenges and difficulties surround you, there is much value to be created.

Instead of cursing the need for sustained and focused effort, be genuinely thankful for the chance. For you are designed and equipped to get things done, and life is superbly rewarding when you do.

When difficult work is called for, step quickly forward with enthusiasm. It is truly your moment to shine, to grow, and to create according to your best expectations.

Run toward the challenges. It is in those challenges that you will fulfill your greatest dreams.

Why wedding ring should put on the fourth finger?

Jake my officemate shared this to me.

Awhile ago he approached me said "Ms. Wheng, why wedding ring should put on the fourth finger ??" I quickly replied "Sorry, hindi ko rin alam" and he said "gawin mo po ito"

1. Firstly, show your palm, centre finger bend and put together back to back

2. Secondly, the rest 4 fingers tips to tips

3. Follow the below arrangement, 5 finger but only 1 pair can split

4. Try to open your thumb, the thumb represent parents, it can be opened beause all human do go thru sickness or old age and die . Which is our parents will leave us one day

5. Close up your thumb, then open your second finger, the finger represent brothers and sisters, they do have their own family which is true they will leave us too

6. Now close up your second finger, open up your little finer, this represents your hildren. Sooner or later they too will leave us for they got their own living to live

7. Nevertheless, close up your little finer, try to open your fourth finger which we put our wedding ring, you will be surprised to find that it cannot be opened at all. Because it represents husband and wife, this whole life you will be attached to each other Real love will stick together ever and forever. Thumb represent parents. Second finger represent brothers & sisters. Centre finger represent own self. Fourth finger represent your partner. Last finger represent your children

Leave me a comment if you have done this.

Get Organized

It is a daily routine for Yaya S to check all kids belonging once they enter the house. Most kids spawn a little chaos and disorganization. Yours might flit from one thing to the next — forgetting books at school, leaving towels on the floor, and failing to finish projects once started. I really want my boys to be organize and to stay focused on tasks, such as homework.

Few kids seem naturally organized, but for the rest, organization is a skill learned over time. With help and some practice, kids can develop an effective approach to getting stuff done, and we Dads & Moms are the perfect person to teach our children.

Here are some processes that could help our kids.

Easy as 1-2-3

1. Getting organized means a kid gets where he or she needs to be and gathers the supplies needed to complete the task.

2. Staying focused means sticking with the task and learning to say "no" to distractions.

3. Getting it done means finishing up, checking your work, and putting on the finishing touches, like remembering to put a homework paper in the right folder and putting the folder inside the backpack so it's ready for the next day.

Once our kids know these steps — and how to apply them — they can start tackling tasks more independently. That means homework, chores, and other tasks will get done with increasing consistency and efficiency. Of course, kids will still need parental help and guidance, but probably we will not have to nag as much.

Sharing the Love

Thanks Dez for this award.

“It was more special knowing that it’s from you. I’m lucky to have you as one of my on-line friends.”

This award is extra special because Crystal created it in honor of the donor who saved her sons life. Her son Noah had to have a heart transplant when he was just over a month old. This award is supposed to help raise awareness of the importance of organ donation.

So, here are the rules Crystal gave:

“The rules of this award are: SHARE THE LOVE!!! Share this award with all those blogs out there that you love. All the people who make you smile. All those that make you laugh. All those that make your day. All those that leave uplifting comments on your blog. **All I ask, is that you include a link to this post with the award and ask your recipient to do the same**

As you may have recently seen on my side bar, I have finally created a custom blog award!! I have wanted to do this for a long time but never came up with something that “fit”. I didn’t want just anything. It had to be something that meant something to me. And what could mean more than Sharing the Love by giving you pieces of my heart?? So I created this award in Honor Of The Donor That Saved Noah’s Life. I share this award with those of you whose love and friendship have enriched my life and made my world a better place.

I hope by passing this award around the blogging world we can all help raise awareness of the need for Organ Donation.

The following persons equally deserve this award Dez, Juliana, and Em's. [ "Thanks for the friendship" ]

Now I'm sharing this award to Jody, Nol, Mari-Dee, Shimumsy , Vangie, and Liza

Changing conditions

When conditions change for the worse, there is no need to despair. For you have the ability to respond.

With every new problem there are plenty of new opportunities. Every setback represents a new starting point from which you can raise yourself to higher levels of purposeful achievement.

Just because things have changed is no reason to give up. In fact, that makes your worthwhile goal even more valuable.

There is always a way to get where you have chosen to go. Each challenge gives you new ways to add value to your dream.

Always, life is overwhelmingly abundant. When conditions change, you have the chance to see aspects of that abundance that you did not previously know were there.

First Day of School Sy 08-09

I’m up at 5am and prepared club house sandwiches for breakfast and for recess. As always, Migs got up early as expected and Jolo, hirap gisingin. Since first day of school, I filed a vacation leave while hubby transacts his business thru phone, which is great advantage. We head on to school thirty minutes before seven and got to see some old friends and parents alike. I even exchange numbers with other parents, so that we have means of communication when regular classes begins.

June 09, 2008

Last minute prep

11:10 PM to be exact and I am still awake. You read right! I just finished sorting all the things for Migs & Jolo, from Bags, books, notebooks, art materials, uniforms and shoes. “I’m still in denial”, I am equally excited as my kids. Time flies so fast and not realizing that I have a first grader. Long way to go, but I am optimistic that both Migs & Jolo will do well in school.

Bye for now . . . . . still need to be awake by 5am.

Kung Fu Panda

Movies will always be our favorite form of relaxation, just this afternoon we watched Kung Fu Panda. Migs & Jolo were laughing from the start. I enjoyed the part when Po is undergoing acupuncture, so funny. The film is well animated and beautiful to look at both kids and yes, even adults will enjoy.

Kung Fu Panda has received very positive reviews from critics.

Below is the synopsis of the film. Hope you could find time watching this movie with your kids.

Synopsis:

Enthusiastic, big and a little clumsy, Po is the biggest fan of Kung Fu around...which doesn't exactly come in handy while working every day in his family's noodle shop. Unexpectedly chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy, Po's dreams become reality when he joins the world of Kung Fu and studies alongside his idols--the legendary fighters Tigress, Crane, Mantis, Viper and Monkey--under the leadership of their teacher and trainer, Master Shifu. But before they know it, the vengeful and treacherous snow leopard Tai Lung is headed their way, and it's up to Po to defend everyone from the oncoming threat. Can he turn his dreams of becoming a Kung Fu master into reality? Po puts his heart - and his girth - into the task, and the unlikely hero ultimately finds that his greatest weaknesses turn out to be his greatest strengths.

Last Minute Shopping

School Opens on Tuesday, June 10 and many of us “including me” are doing our last minute shopping. Well for me I just got handkerchiefs, hand towels, face towels and little things that I will need in covering their books and notebooks. School uniforms and books, got it first week of May. Black shoes and rubber shoes purchased it 2nd week of May and notebooks and art materials got it third week of May. I really need to plan everything, I hate panic buying, and it is not wise of me to buy things that I do not need.

A life that matters..

Upon checking my mail box this morning I saw this message “A life that matters” from Myra, my officemate. I easily opened it and got inspired during day. Now I want you guys to read and reflect on it over the weekend. “God is good all the time”, “All the time God is good.”

Ready or not, someday it will all come to an end.

There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours, or days.

All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.

Your wealth, fame, and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.

It will not matter what you owed, or what you were owed.

Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies will finally disappear.

So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists will expire.

The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.

It won’t matter where you came from, or what side of the tracks you lived, at the end.

Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.

So what will matter?

How will the value of your days be measured?

What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built; not what you got, but what you gave.

What will matter is not your success, but how hard you tried.

What will matter is not what you learned but what you taught.

What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage, or sacrifice that enriched, empowered, or encouraged others to emulate your example.

What will matter is not your competence, but you character.

What will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you’re gone.

What will matter is not your memories, but the memories that live in those who loved you.

What will matter is how long you will be remembered by whom and for what.

Living a life that matters doesn’t happen by accident.

It’s not a matter of chance, but of choice.

Choose to live a life that matters.

Mystery

There is much you can learn from what you don't know. The questions that have no answers will add great value and wisdom to your life.

Some things in this world are shrouded in mystery. Some things will always be.

The fact that you don't know it all compels you to think. And thinking can be a very productive and enlightening exercise.

Those things that are unknown cause you to wonder. And wonder is the source of much richness in life.

In what you know and understand, there are many valuable possibilities. In the realm of what you don't yet know, are even more possibilities waiting to be discovered.

Look toward what you cannot see, and listen for what you cannot hear. In so doing, you'll find great truth.

On being a Mom

A question from Dez.

Question: What I love most about being a mom.

“Just being a Mom makes me feel blessed”

I love being a mom because my kids say the most amazingly funny things and they know when to say it!!!

I love playing with my kids, especially at night time before we go to bed.

I love to hear Migs &Jolo especially when I’m tired and not in the mood and they will ask “Mom are you ok?”, “are you sick?” well, those words makes me feel better.

Watching them grow makes me feel young.

I love that God in His wisdom has given my husband and I two boys who are smart.

I love the displays of affection - the group hugs and kisses, giving me a glass of water whenever I’m thirsty.

I am even blessed of having Caesar, Migs & Jolo in my life. They make it worthwhile.

Some day I wish there was a little more pink and lace in my life but I have learned to love blue and yellow - ha! LOL!

Out of all the millions of moms in the world, I love being the only one they call MOM.

Cafe Breton

As usual, we stroll in Trinoma last Sunday, and treated kids at Timezone. After two hours of playing we pass by Café Breton and Dad treated us for snack. We ordered for Mozzarella Hamburger (one of their best sellers) Tuna Melt (so, healthy and yummy!) Garden Salad with honey mustard sauce (my favorite) and mixed fruit Crepe (kids favorite and Café Breton specialty). I really enjoy some bonding moments with my kids, especially now they will be busy in school, for sure they will choose to be at home on weekends instead of hanging out.

PSP

Since PSP was launched in the market a lot of kids became hooked with this new gadget, even my officemates became addicted with this during break time. So, I won’t be surprised if my sons will ask for it, until last April of this year, when Jolo had his birthday party, he was asked “what’s your birthday wish?” and he answered “PSP”. That’s expected, but ever since, my kids know for a fact the Dad & Mom are really working hard to provide them with all their needs and wants. But that time, Dad and Mom are preparing for the tuition fee. So, it’s really a BIG NO for PSP. I explained it to Jolo that “wish anak means, a hope, it could be granted, but not now”. I think he understand because he never ask for it again. But, every time he has coins he will say “Mom! I got this coins, please keep it, I want to buy my PSP”. At least on his age he knows how to value his money. Since Dad has a lot of projects this past week, we head on to Virra Mall to buy the PSP. Migs & Jolo were so thankful to their Dad, and even I whispered to Jolo “your wish was granted” and he just smiled.

Churros and Cream Puffs

Cream Puffs are one of hubby’s favorite. I got him a box of it at Dulcinea and even got two orders of chocolate churros for me. But when I got home, my two little boys tasted the churros and nothing was left for me. Huh huh huh !!! That’s ok . . . I’ll be getting it some other time.

Padre Pio's Hemin Bread Part 2

My tenth day ended last Wednesday. As instructed, I divided the mixture into four equally parts and place them in separate containers and set aside the fourth portion that I suppose to bake.

I bake it for thirty minutes and I even tasted it, taste like “kababayan”. Now, I’m passing it to Butch, Myra and Melissa.
